  • [H3] What is sleep training?\n\n\n\nIt is just a guidance provided by you to help your child sleep. JUST THAT.!!\n\n\n\nWhen can you start to sleep train?\n\n\n\nExperts say 4-6 Months is the best time when you can start sleep train your child. However if you have already missed this time, it's never late to start sleep training in the first place. Even if it is a toddler, you can try atleast Routine method.\n\n\n\nSleep training methods\n\n\n\n1. Pick up and put down method\n\n\n\nSimplest method- When baby is fussy or sleepy, just pick up and comfort them and once done put theg back. Follow this untill your baby falls asleep.\n\n\n\n2. \"Cry it out\" method\n\n\n\nAlso called as \"extinction\" method. This is just to put your baby to bed and let them cry untill they fell asleep. Offcourse after following the bedtime routine- feeding or say after tummy is full. They say, first night is difficult. Baby might get up in every hour crying. But eventually, it is one of the methods used.\n\n\n\nAlthough I don't like this method but this is one of the method used worldwide. Personally, I will never suggest you to do it. It seems to be too harsh, and I feel it is not that necessary.\n\n\n\n3. Ferber Method\n\n\n\nIf you can't see your baby cry and sleep by themselves with \"Cry it out\" method, then you can try this. This method is all about letting baby cry for some time then console them. After few nights, they learn to sooth themselves and sleep. By the way, I am still not a fan of any of the crying method.\n\n\n\n4. Light music in background method\n\n\n\nSome use this method also. Just find out when you feel your baby is sleepy, and put them to bed. And offcourse have light music in the background.\n\n\n\n5. Feeding to sleep Method\n\n\n\nAlthough this might be the easiest method at first to put your baby sleep by feeding milk or formula whatever you prefer. But later on you will find it as the hardest of all, since this becomes the habit for baby and then you struggle to change this habit and put your baby to sleep with other sleep train methods.\n\n\n\nPublicDomainPictures \/ Pixabay\n\n\n\nDo's and Don'ts while you sleep train your child:\n\n\n\nDo's while you sleep train- This is something I have followed. I call it as \"Routine Method\" You should always follow a routine to sleep. Put your baby sleep at or around same time everyday. Wake them us at almost same time. The nap times offcourse go hand in hand. It just sets their routine, and you will find your baby is sleepy at almost same time everyday, be it nap times or bedtime at night. Also the routine include the lights-off. Slowly your baby will understand that when the lights are off, you need to go to sleep. Another factor is their physical exercise, have a good playtime with them to make them fall asleep faster.\n\n\n\nDon't s while sleep train - 1. Do not keep your baby awake for long time to put them to sleep. That does not mean they will sleep longer and deeply. There is no need for such a thing. Although you can try to push their early evening nap time to bedtime. 2. Both the don't s are relate dto each other. Nap time- if your baby sleeps more than required in a day then he\/she will have difficulty in sleeping at night. Use the sleep chart below to understand better.\n\n\n\nAgeDaily HoursNap time - duration and number0 - 1 Months12 - 18 hoursIts always Nap time and night sleep time together.1 - 3 Months15 hours2 - 4 nap times, 1\/2 hour to 4 hours each3 - 6 Months14 hours2 - 3 nap times, 1\/2 hour to 2 hours each1 Year12 - 13 hours2 nap times, 1 - 2 hours each1 1\/2 Years10 - 13 hours1 - 2 Nap times, 1 - 3 hours each2 Years10 - 13 hours1 Nap time, 2 - 3 hours eachNot a standard table or exact time.
